We have scheduled our Basic Beginners Sailing Lesson on Sydney Harbour for 2012. As we keep our sessions small, we only take between 6 to 10 students to ensure you get the best sailing skills. Are you thinking about getting into sailing, planning on going up to the Whitsunday’s? Thinking about hiring a bareboat yacht charter and sailing at sometime in the future?
Sailing is one of the romantic notions, the illusion of just being up to hop aboard a luxury yacht, have a champagne and let the crew do everything…..well that does happen, but…also there is a skill to sailing. Knowing what to do when the weather changes, winds shift, storms come up. How to get the most excitement from the day or days you are on your yacht. Romance is one thing…practical, sound skills is also imperative for your security and safety.

Imagine spending the weekend on a yacht, learn how to sail with your crew and skipper, having a true hands on experience on all the basic skills you need to gain your sailing certificate.
What’s included in your Basic Learn to Sail Course:
Syllabus: Basic Sailing skills
What will I learn?
- How to prepare the yacht for sailing
- How to set sails, how to trim & reef sails, cover sheets
- How to do rigging & casting off
- Points of Sail – how to tack & gybe
- Understand weather
- Recognise wind direction & where it’s coming from
- The basic Rules of the water and boating
- The Buoyage system
- 4 Basic knots & how to handle ropes
- Safety & safety equipment
- How to use Winches, jammers & cleats easily & correctly
- Terminology
What will I receive after completion of my basic sailing course?
- A Yachting Australia Keelboat book (additional fee of $35) – Purchase directly through Yachting Australia
- Video footage of the training
- Photo’s of the training
- Upon successful completion a Basic Sailing Skills Certificate
Duration: 2 days plus 1 overnight stay (dinner & breakfast provided) – if you choose to not stay overnight it will be either 2 consecutive days pr 1 week apart

Location: Pick up from Henley Marine Drive, Drummoyne at Birkenhead Head Wharf. Just under the Iron Cove bridge. Not at the Marina.
Price: $799.00 per person with overnight stay accommodation & meals included
Price: $699.00 per person, lunch provided & refreshments, no overnight stay and no meals provided

At Topsides Up Sailing School your Skipper Hank Beyer will stay overnight on the yacht with you and you have him for the entire 2 days to ask all your sailing questions, refine your skills or just hear sailing stories on his skills, experiences, racing and so forth.
